moving + painting my new home office

I’ve been moving over the past few weeks, and with the computer at the new home and the internet set up, I’m back to blogging.  I have a bunch of ideas for new posts, but until I find my cord to upload photos from my camera, those will have to wait for now…  Instead, I hope you enjoy this roundup of what I’ve been up to recently plus all the links I’ve wanted to share over the past few weeks.

Moving

I decided to make a checklist for moving a small business, particularly for the sole proprietorships or home officers out there. Find it on Practice Blawg.

My new home office

I spent a good part of last week looking at paint samples in the new house  You see, I’ve been plotting the colors for this house for the past several years. Yep. Before we even could start looking for a new house, I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted it to feel. I thought I’d paint the office one of the colors I’ve always loved but couldn’t find place for in the rest of the house. That color turned out to be lavender, or, what I’m calling plum-grey. (The frontrunner is at right: Martha Stewart’s Dusk)

However, the toughest season for me to get work done is winter. When the days are short and my feet are cold, I find it harder to sit at the desk for a long time. Hopefully this new office will help as I have many more windows to enjoy the limited sunlight in our northern locale (one of the many criteria during our house hunt). The green in my old office was always warn but not too sleepy, so I think I ought to pick a color that will be more of a pick-me-up through the winter. The best options for that would be a red or orange. Not being much of a red or orange person I’ve decided to hold off on painting for a bit, as nice as it would be to paint before getting all the books on the bookshelf and the boxes unpacked. The current plan: Find some really awesome curtains and go from there.

The rest of the links will have to wait for later — I have more to post than I thought!
