Welcome!

Well you’ve found your way to my blog.  And now you’re reading my first post.  I’ve actually been writing this blog in my head for months, but was stuck on a name and what exactly I was going to talk about.  The thing is, while the scope of my musings are very clear in my own head, I haven’t been able to explain this to anyone else in less than a few minutes.  And then they look confused.  I thought this meant that I needed to clarify my vision: productivity, eco-friendliness, design in all forms related to work (home office, stationery, technology), work-life balance, ethics.  But I really think all these things contribute to a successful small business: to be successful you must be productive yet not wear yourself out, aware of the consequences of your actions, true to yourself in your business decisions, and promote an image that is uniquely you.  Don’t have a business?  I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these things still resonate with you for your personal or professional life.

Now I’m approaching this as an inspiration journal, an outlet for creativity, and a place to consider new things.  On one side I’m driven by productivity and organization, but on the other I think it’s essential to live in the moment and balance work with play, family, friends, creativity, and relaxation.  I think everyone feels this way, with some more on one side or the other – many of us feeling like we have neither or too little of one.  It’s a constant tension for me.  I like to think they aren’t opposites at all, that productivity and organization leads to more free time and thoughtfulness, but it’s not always the case.  Recently I’ve been finding myself caught up in the organization, but really never feeling satisfied.  I’m planning to explore some new methods and will write about them here.  I’m also trying to get back a little more mindfulness, something I think I was actually pretty good at before I went to law school.  Hopefully I can find a balance between the two.

I originally planned to call this My Home Office Project, but aside from the generic factor, I really think it might appeal anyone with a nontraditional office or business… or  anyone looking for a well-functioning and beautiful home office, whether or not you’re running a business.  I think running a home can be just as important.  So, whether you’re here because of your job, your home office, your creativity, or whatever other reason, I hope you find something that delights or inspires you.
